Basic training

Purbachal’s journey with music began with his father Shri Dwijendranath Bera (a disciple of Sangeetacharya Surendranath Bandhyopadhyay, one of the stalwarts of Bishnupur Gharana). At the age of five he took his initial vocal training from his father at home till the age of ten.

Advance Training

The foundation had been laid. He then went on to train himself under Pdt Santanu Bandhyopadhyay of Bishnupur Gharana, who has been helping him ever since to enhance his vocal abilities and master Raagdaari. He has been learning music from his Guru for 26 years.

Purbachal has also had the good fortune of receiving Vocal training from Maestro Sangeetacharya Amiyaranjan Bandopadhyay for a short period of time. He instilled in him the value of disciple and dedication towards one’s craft.

Purbachal is an equipped ‘Harmonium player’. It was his father who introduced him to the instrument soon after he began singing. He later taught himself the nuances of the instrument and with years of practice has turned himself into a melodious and innovative Harmonuim player. He has accompanied his Gurus in Harmonium at several prestigious concerts.
